Ben ProudfootFounder & CEO
Once a world champion in sleight-of-hand magic, Ben Proudfoot now brings that spirit of wonder to Breakwater Studios Ltd., of which he is founder and director. Ben’s focus on telling deeply humanistic stories across documentary, narrative, and branded mediums in both long and short form has had a profound effect on Breakwater Studios, where he now leads a diverse staff of dedicated and talented artists across a variety of pre-, post-, and physical production spectrums, all united under one roof.
As director for all of Breakwater’s projects, Ben most recently completed the documentary Rwanda & Juliet, which premiered at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival in 2016. His previous credits include the short craftspeople-centric documentaries The Ox and ink&paper, the latter of which was eventually optioned by Sony Pictures Television, as well as the Life’s Work series. He’s worked with top brands including Charles Schwab, Unity Technologies, and Annapurna Pictures to create high quality branded content.
He and Breakwater Studios Ltd. are currently based out of Los Angeles, with a satellite office in Proudfoot’s hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
